Language Course Requirements (optional):
The Peace Corps requires that volunteers working in Latin America demonstrate strong intermediate proficiency in Spanish and that volunteers working in West Africa demonstrate proficiency in French or another Romance Language--as applicable. The Peace Corps does not have language requirements for other volunteer locations, but strongly encourages applicants to have a least one foreign language class in the same language of the country where the applicant intends to serve. Native speakers of Spanish and French who want to serve in a country that speaks their native language are exempt from the language requirement.
